What the money actually buys

Half of it — ₹85,834 crore — is MGNREGA, paid as wages for days of work rural households asked for under the job guarantee, so the amount follows demand rather than a fixed allocation. Then ₹32,327 crore builds houses under PMAY-Gramin, ₹14,705 crore funds the rural livelihoods mission, and ₹9,652 crore is social assistance: old-age, widow and disability pensions.
